sick breath

When my kids are little...I've not noticed this when they get older....I can tell when they are sick or getting sick because they have "sick breath". It's so strange and I can't really describe what it smells like...I just call it "sick breath". It doesn't smell bad...it's just a distinct smell that signals me that a sickness is coming....I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this with their kids???

I have, especially the sore throat breath. My sister's doctor saw her once for strep and before he even did the test he told her it was strep, just based on her breath.

Ya - I get that with me and my whole family.

Yup, and we call it the same thing!

You are for sure not the only one. It happens here too.

Yuck. It is much worse than regular bad breath.

I get what you mean! I can smell strep. I call that talent if I say so myself!

I call it sick breath too! Mike thinks I'm crazy but I know exactly when someone is going to be sick!

I have 4 kids and the reason I found this post was because I was googling "sick breath" as I can smell my kids breath and I can tell if they are sick or getting sick. It isn't a bad smell... I can't really describe it, maybe a sort of medicine/hospital smell not even sure if that describes it but it is a sort of pleasant smell. I don't smell it with every sickness but I have yet to figure out what kinds of things I do notice it from. Right now my 1 year old twins have a bug... vomiting & diarrhea & I smell it of their breath. It's not the smell of the threw up (which is nasty) but a sort of nice sweet smell. After googling I see a lot of people mention diabetes but it is not the case here. I wondered if it was something your immune system gives of when fighting infection?
Glad to know I am not crazy though :o)

Everyone thinks I'm crazy also, but every time I smell it, I get sick! Atleast I always know when my family is coming down with something or fighting something, even if they don't have any symptoms of being sick...

People think im crazy but are amazed when I'M right!!!! And Ibalso compare the smell to a medicinal or hospital smell...maybe even a slight rubbing alcohol smell..im so glad I found this thread :)
