Josh was lucky enough to get to go see Bon Jovi in concert. He was telling us about it at dinner one night last week and I mentioned that I got to see Bon Jovi in the 80's, back when their hair was really big and their spandex pants were really tight.....and that's when Joe yelled out, really loudly.....YOU WERE ALIVE IN THE 80'S!!!!?????
yeah.....feeling pretty old.

The Oldest Comes Home
Zack came home for a week. It went by way too fast....like speed lightening. I'm sad he had to go back so soon. I really miss having him around. He was gone so much of the time visiting with friends that I feel like I didn't get to spend much time with him. He did go to Church with us to a friends ward for their baby's blessing. We also did family pictures and then went out to dinner. I just wish we had more time..... I remember when they were all little and hoping for the day when they would grow up and not need me so much...but now I realize I was foolish to wish for those days because they came all too quickly and now I miss all the times they needed me....boo hoo.... Hopefully we will somehow fit in a trip to Utah this summer...fingers and toes crossed!

Zack!
Zack's home for a visit and we are all so happy to see him again. It's been too long. I can't stop hugging him and neither can Hannah!

Joe woke up Sunday covered in hives. Aaron and I were trying to get to the bottom of where they came from, we haven't changed detergents recently, no new meds lately, so we asked him what he ate at the birthday party he attended the night before...Wendys burgers and fries...that shouldn't of caused it. Then we had this conversation......
Aaron: What did you eat for breakfast?
Joe: (long pause)....Do you want me to tell the truth?
Aaron and Me: (after exchanging a "look" between each other) YES
Joe: ice cream
Aaron: Who gave you ice cream??
Joe: No one....I snuck it.
Aaron and I really had a hard time containing our laughter....at least he told the truth...maybe he had the hives because he was keeping that secret, they were gone the next day ...the hives, I mean, not the ice cream......

Au revoir!
Last school year Megan told me she really wanted to go on the school trip to France. Each year LPS (Lincoln Public Schools) works with ISE (International Student Exchange) to take kids on trips abroad. Megan really loves the French language and is in her 3rd year of high school French. She wrote down each step she needed to take to go on the trip. She worked hard, filling out all financial aide forms and applied for a scholarship. She wrote an essay for part of the application to get a scholarship. She saved her money and had enough for the down payment for the trip. It was a super happy day when I received a phone call telling me that she did indeed get the scholarship for the trip....she ended up having to pay $200.00 for a $3000.00 trip!! I just can't even say how excited I am for her to be able to have this opportunity! She worked so hard, setting goals and achieving them. I'm just so proud of her!!
She will spend 5 nights with a host family in a town called Evruex. The family has 1 daughter, who is around Megan's age. She gets to go to school with her host "sister". After her 5 nights there she will spend 3 nights in Paris with her group. I absolutely can't wait to hear all about her trip! These are going to be memories she will cherish for her whole life!

Overheard Conversations
We were in the car picking up kids and dropping off kids...you know, the usual.
Hannah: I can't get out of the car cause I'm wearing my flippers
Joe: They're called SLIPPERS!!!
Hannah: Each time I go to put them on they are upside down and I have to flip them over so I call them Flippers.

Hannah (while watching Harry Potter): I know magic isn't real.
Me: Nope, but it would be cool if it was.
Hannah: Well, I'm not 11 yet......
(She is really hoping she will get a letter inviting her to Hogwarts when she turns 11)

Time to "Unconvalesce"
Today I slept away the day. I could not fall asleep until 930 or 1000 and then ended up sleeping until 7pm! I got up...got a bowl of cereal, went back up to my room and turned on the TV. These past weeks since my surgery have been spent mostly in my room....in my comfy bed, with my remote close by. I really couldn't do much reading as the pain meds made me feel almost carsick if I tried to read. I'm feeling so much better...but still tired, too tired. I have got to get up and do something. My body has gotten used to doing alot of nothing. My biggest "wake up" call came tonight as I sat in my bed, eating my bowl of cereal. Hannah came up to snuggle with me and she looks at me with her cute little face "you kinda live up here don't you mom...you eat up here, you sleep up here and you watch TV up here."........can you say EMBARRASSMENT and SHAME....those were the two things I felt. Out of the mouths of babes.

Update
It's about time I write. I'm sad because I look back and I used to be so good at keeping my blog up to date. Sometimes when I'm bored at work I get on my blog and read old posts and am soo soo glad I wrote things down and put pictures out there to be remembered. Part of my problem is that I hardly ever get on the computer at home anymore. When I'm at work I can't download pictures...I guess I should put our pictures in piccasa then I can retrieve them at work. :)
So much is going on. Where to start....How 'bout my surgery. On Dec 27th I had a hysterectomy, a bladder sling "installed" and a rectocele fixed. I was in the hospital for two nights and went through more pain than I care to remember....I'm 4 weeks post op and feeling a ton better...but still more tired than usual. Everything went well and the problems I was having are gone now...so that's so very very nice!! AND....NO MORE PERIODS!!! WOO HOO!!! Sorry for the TMI but that's just me. In two more weeks I can start working out and picking up more than 10 lbs and vacuum!! I love to vacuum and having two shedding dogs brings me many opportunities to vacuum and the kids just don't do it the way I like it done. I must give many kuddos to Aaron who has done all of the cooking and tried to supervise the cleaning and has not complained a bit. Even this week (my first full week back to work) he has not complained that I have been sleeping like 10 hours a day. I feel so guilty but he just said he's glad I've gotten so much sleep. Thank you honey!
Speaking of Aaron, we had our 21 year anniversary on Jan 10th. We went to see the movie The Impossible...which was so good! Go see it!! But bring kleenex! We also got out before that to see Les Miserable and he was so sweet as I cried through most of it and just thought it was cute and wasn't embarrassed as I let out three huge sobs at the end..... Although we've had many a rocky time in our 21 years I'm glad he's mine and I love him so much.
My Zack is doing well...he's still in Utah and I miss him so very much. He sent me flowers after my surgery and I was so happy to get them! He's working full time at Americas Best Eyeglasses and Contacts in Midvale...so if you need glasses go see him...he works full time during the day. He is taking this year off school but he hopes to get back in the fall. I am planning a trip out there in March and will bring him back here to Nebraska for a week or so....CAN'T WAIT!!!
Josh has been having a bit of a hard time figuring out what he wants at this point in his life. He was going to school but decided to stop...was working but decided to quit and he has his girlfriend of two years broke up. He's decided not to go on a mission for our church which is really hard for me....still haven't worked out all my feelings about that...I love him dearly and know things will work out for him. He went to visit UNK (University of Nebraska Kearney) which is about 2 hours from here and he really liked it. The thing he really didn't like about UNL (University of Nebraska Lincoln) was how big it is and how big the classes are. He really would like to attend a smaller college, and UNK seemed like a good fit to him...so we shall see. He also has gone from wanting to teach high school to wanting to teach elementary school and now he would like to pursue acting and theater tech. He is auditioning for a couple plays at Lincoln Community Theatre (Harvey and Les Mis) and is still looking for a job. Everyone keeps telling me this is the hardest time for some folks...I know it was for me....so I have faith that he will figure it out and make the best choices for him....in the meantime I am having a tremendously hard time letting go.
Megan is a junior this year. She does well in school and each parent teacher conference I get to hear over and over how she's a model student. She really wanted to go on a school trip to France. So, she filled out all the paperwork and applied for the scholarship and was awarded it. She only ended up having to pay 250.00 for a 3000.00 trip! She will go in March and stay 5 nights with a host family and then 3 nights in Paris. I'm so very excited for her! What a chance of a lifetime!! She's already "met" her host family over the internet....they have one daughter...so I'm sure it will be a vacation and a half for Megan to be one of two kids AND be in France!! She will get to go to school with her "host sister". I almost feel like it's happening to me...that's how excited I feel for her!! Meg's also doing Speech and is very involved in Drama. North Star is performing the musical Grease this spring and Megan is playing the part of the principal.
Matthew is a freshman! Time sure does fly! He is loving high school and I couldn't be happier about that. He's pretty happy most of the time and the only issue at home is the fact that he and Joe fight so much (that seriously drives me crazy!!!). He is involved in Tech for theatre and really loves it! He is not a studious student and getting a C is just fine for him...but I have a hard time with it. He is seriously loving being a "ginger" lately, I think he loves the attention it gets him. He has many friends and is a really good boy. During my recovery he was seriously so helpful. He brought laundry up for me and did just about anything I asked...thanks Chewey!
Joe is doing great! He's had a couple issues at school mostly due to med changes...always med issues. He really such a sweet and expressive boy. Big groups are so hard for him, so school is a trial. He is so very lucky and blessed to have a teacher who really works with him and is (in my book) very Saint like. He loves to draw and has a quite a talent for it. He's super excited that Josh signed him up to audition for Les Mis, as they are looking for children ages 8-11. He and Hannah have been playing so well together...I'm so glad they have each other in our crazy family.
Hannah is just as flighty as ever....I love her but that girl lives in her own little world. During the holidays we watched the movie ELF and we all agree that "Buddy" and Hannah are related. She cracks me up though...always saying the funniest things. She is going through a "scared" period in her life. She is scared of everything....she sleeps with the blanket up over her head, which makes for lovely "rats nest" hair each day. She is very smart and an excellent reader and speller. She loves school and loves her teacher (she has the same teacher Joe had in 1st grade). She still loves to snuggle with me...and she is quite spoiled being the baby. She loves loves loves stuffed animals and littlest pet shops. She is a dog lover and likes to watch every dog movie they have on Netflix...and there are alot of them!!
I'm still very involved in helping with theater for the high school, I'm a drama mama. I help plan meals when the kids have late night rehearsals and that's coming up very soon. So my life will be filled with drama....ha ha.... I also have North Stars Speech meet coming up, lots of food planning and being there all day in concessions....I love it though, makes me feel useful. I also teach Relief Society (womens class) at my church, it's my favorite calling of all time...I'm sure I'll be released soon since I said that. :/ I'd really like to keep up on my blog more this year....that's pretty much my only resolution. Losing weight never seems to happen and our financial situation stays pretty much the same every year...we are poor. But we are here and we are living our lives...that's something.
Well, this ended up being much longer than I thought it would be. We've had three patients all night....so lots of down time! It's ended up being a good night which is nice since this is my 6th night working in a row (I got called in tonight). I'm sure I'll be sorry I said that since I still have 2 and a half hours to go.

The Sky is Falling
Okay...really it's not the sky, just my uterus.
Warning...this post contains personal info and perhaps WTMI (way too much info) for some .
So, about 2 months or so ago, I started having a problem going to the bathroom. My pooper was no longer functioning properly, basically I'd try to go and felt as if I was hitting a barrier and nothing could come out. I was embarrassed and didn't know what the heck was going on. I kept this issue to myself for a couple weeks and then finally confided in a nurse at work. Over the next couple days she told me some things to try and then she said she thought I might have a prolapsed uterus. So, I went to see my gynecologist. Yes indeed...I do have a prolapsed uterus (it's falling out) and what's called a Rectocele (the lining between my rectum and vagina has colapsed...explaining my lack of poo issues). These things are most likely caused by all my pregnancies. My gynecologist doesn't do surgery so she sent a different gyno in to see me and I was so happy to see that she is female! (I really like having a female Dr). Dr Rutan came in, I got to have another pelvic exam (two for the price of one!) and she also did a biopsy of my uterus. She told me she thinks I should have a hysterectomy and she could also repair my bladder (it's also falling out)...meaning no more having to cross my legs everytime I cough, laugh or sneeze!! and she will repair the rectocele so I can go potty! She sent me out to see a urologist to make sure my bladder was normal and not in need of specialized surgery to fix it. So, I went to the urologist....he told me he needed to "get a lay of the land" so I was scheduled for a Cystoscopy....this is a lovely procedure where I got to lay on my back with my legs in stirrups and a tube was inserted in my urethra so the Dr could get a "lay of the land"....ends up my land is normal and Dr Rutan can perform the bladder lift on her own. But Dr urologist decides I should go see a GI specialist because he doesn't think that rectocele is big enough to be causing all my poop problems (or lack of said poop).....so off I went to see a GI Dr. I did not like the GI Dr at all...I actually saw a Nurse Practitioner and she was okay....just not real sympathetic or empathetic. She called the GI Doc and he decided I should have several very invasive tests.....the Nurse practitioner told me about the tests I would be having, I sat with a scheduler, got them all scheduled (colonoscopy scheduled for Christmas Eve)...barely made it to the van where I promptly burst into tears. I basically cried the entire day long...I slept for four hours and cried some more...by the time I got to work my eyes looked distorted and swollen. You see the colonoscopy would be the easy test I had to do....for drugs are involved in that one. The first test coming my way was a Defagram.....this was the biggest cause of my anguish that day...I could not fathom having to do what is required for this test. You see, a Defagram is performed after the tech shoots barium paste up your hiney and then you sit on potty seat and poo out the paste while the radiologist stands next to you watching you do it on xray. Now, I'm a very open person....but my poop has always been my business and something I don't share with anyone....not even my husband....it's private and the thought of doing this business in front of someone else just completely mortified me....I honestly thought there would be no way I could do it....but I did. I made it through and now I'm even sharing about it on my blog! After this test Dr Rutan called me and asked me how things were going...I told her I was so unhappy with the GI office. She suggested I go see a friend of hers, who is a colorectal surgeon. So, I did and she was so awesome!! Her name is Dr Krier and she is wonderful. She is so sweet and kind and she went to school in Utah...which is a big plus in my book :). She was able to get my colonscopy and the other test I needed to have done (an anorectal manometry)scheduled on the same day, Dec 6th...so much better than Christmas Eve. So I prepared for the colonscopy the night before, I'm sure my colon has never been so clean! I arrived at the hospital at 645 and was immediately ushered into a little room to change into a gown. Next an IV was inserted into my hand and then Dr Krier was there. She was so kind to me and the nurses. I laid on my side and had the anorectal manometry first. This test is performed with a small tube like instrument inserted into your hiney...there is a small balloon like thing on the end of it. It's performed to test the muscles in your rectum. You have to tighten and push and it's all very fast, somewhat uncomfortable and embarrassing. I'm assuming no one likes to have objects up their bum, I know I don't.....but by this point my dignity is gone and I'm almost getting used to people probing my orifices (almost being the key word here). After that test it was time for my colonoscopy....this is where the lovely versed came into play....that and fentanyl. Versed is a drug that helps you "forget" and fentanyl is for pain. These are the drugs that make a colonscopy bearable...you don't really remember it. I did remember just a couple things. I remember saying "ow ow ow that hurts" and someone saying "give her more fentanyl. I remember saying that but I don't remember actually feeling it. I also remember "waking" up to see my colon on the monitor and Dr Krier removing a polyp. Then I was recovering and just felt somewhat tired and hungry (after all that fasting and flushing out). Aaron took me home and I slept til 1pm and felt just fine after that. A couple days later I met with Dr Krier and guess what!!! My uterus is falling onto my rectum and making it just about impossible for me to go poo!! So, I went through all of that to be told exactly what I was told in the first place!! The one good thing out of all this is that the polyp removed from my colon was precancerous and had I waited til I was 50 to have a colonoscopy it very well could of become cancerous. I also learned that I can make it through things that I never thought I could and live to tell about it. Surgery is scheduled for December 27th (saving a lot of moola having it before the end of the year)...having my uterus removed, my bladder lifted and the rectocele repaired. So, what's the moral to this story??? Don't have a lot of kids cause your uterus might fall out! (just kidding....I would go through all this and more for my kidlins...love them more than they will ever know.) OH...and do your Kegels!!!!!
